The first record regarding Torri in Sabina is the Regesto Farfense, where is described the donation of a casalis turris to the Farfa Abbey in 747. It is in 1298 that we have evidence of a castle owned by the Holy See until Pope Urban V gave it in fee to the Orsini. The noble family owned the village until the death of Flavio Orsini’s wife Anna de la Trèmouille in 1728, year in which the Apostolic Camera had the village once again. In November 1817 the decree of Cardinal Consalvi ratified the ultimate structure of the Sabine Province, and Torri was declared an autonomous municipality under the Governorate of Calvi. After the Italian unification the municipality was at first part of the Province of Perugia, then a part of the Province of Rome and at the end it included in the new Province of Rieti.
The place originally called Forum Novum, later on the name changed in Vescovio, belongs to the municipality of Torri in Sabina. During the Ancient Rome it was a center of commerce. In the 1stcentury it was declared a municipium and an Episcopal See was built. The Saracen destroyed the buildings and on those ruins was built the Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Lode, considered one of the must see church of Sabine territory.

ROCCHETTE E ROCCHETTINE
These two fortified twin settlements of 13th century are located in one of the most impressive place of Sabine, overlooking a deep gorge formed by water erosion of the Aia River.
The settlements, formerly known as Rocca Bertalda (Rocchette) and Rocca Guidonesca (Rocchettine), were built to protect the important thoroughfare connecting Rieti to the Tiber Valley. Rocchettine is now a ghost town, but Rocchette is still inhabited and keep its ancient features and timeless charm.
Places of interest
Torri in Sabina is a lovely small village where you can admire stunning sunsets on the Soratte Mountain. It is also known for the archaeological site in Forum Novum, the Church of Santa Maria della lode in Vescovio and Rocchette e Rocchettine castles.
In Vescovio we can found the remains of the ancient Roman municipality of Forum Novum. The researchers have unearthed the Forum, the basilica, some tabernae (ancient shops) and a temple.
Noteworthy is the Church of Santa Maria della lode. Despite being renovated, the building still keeps the features and the original structure of the Romanesque construction of the first years of the 12th century. The bell tower was built using the remains of the Roman village in the nearby and some High Medieval Period sculpture fragments. The interior, made by only one nave, is decorated with a painting representing episodes of the Old and New Testament; on the counter-facade there is a marvelous The Last Judgement.
