On the left Tiber's bank there is the Bassa Sabina, a territory situated in Rieti's province, circumscribed by Monti Sabini on the east side and on the north by Monte Cosce-San Pancrazio. Because of their calcareous constitution these mountains are vulnerable to the atmospheric emotion. This territory doesn't have, in spite of Tiber and Farfa rivers, important streams but mostly small torrents that often create clefts and gorges. The territory close to Monti Sabini and close to the Tiber's shores is full of wonderful natural trails. There are many activities such as trekking and excursions, mountain bike, horse-riding pathways, climbing and speleological excursions with different level difficulty. Follow here some itineraries on the open air, most of them with E difficulty, with starting location at the very north of Monti Sabini, Configni.
Configni offers many recently rediscovered trails on the north, east and ovest slope of the Cosce Mountain. The trails, thanks to their different difficulty levels, aren't boring at all. Just few kilometers by car, while you will see a wonderful view and its typical vegetation, Rottaccia and Camorco karst caves, Pozzo di Miesole hole, the ruins of an old prehistoric fortress (IX c. a. C) and the sportive climb. This natural climb is situated just 300 m up on the historical city centre. The rock hosts plates, cliffs, holes that make the climb more interesting. This trail has 60 itineraries from the 4th until the 7th C and particular trails for children and beginners. In the mountain territory of Configni, Lugnola and Cottanello many itineraries are available for mountain bike, horse-riding and from Vacone where paragliding is possible.
